What decides whether it lasts
What repair actually involves
Cracks get chased out into a V with a saw rather than simply filled, so the repair has shoulders to hold onto, then filled with a rigid polyurea that can be ground flush the same day. Spalled edges near a garage door, where water has sat and frozen for a few winters, are rebuilt with a polymer-modified patch. None of this shows in the finished floor, which is precisely why it gets skipped by people quoting the cheapest number.
Why the topcoat matters more than the base
The layer you actually walk on, wash and scuff is the clear coat, not the color underneath. A cheap job leaves a standard epoxy as the top layer, and epoxy ambers in daylight, so a garage with a west-facing door turns yellow within a couple of years. A UV-stable polyaspartic or aliphatic urethane holds its color, cures fast enough to walk on the next day, and can be scuffed and recoated years later without disturbing what is underneath.
One person, start to finish. There is no crew that turns up instead of the owner, and no salesman between you and the person holding the squeegee. Metallic, if you want the floor to be the feature, or polished concrete if you want it quiet. Metallic gives you flowing depth that no two floors share; polishing gives you the slab itself, refined, with nothing on top that can ever peel.
It gets wet or greasy
Quartz or a non-slip build. Both put graded aggregate into the surface so there is real traction underfoot, and both can be coved up the wall and sloped to a drain so the room can be properly washed down rather than just mopped.
You like the concrete you already have
Grind and seal. The slab is opened up, optionally stained, and sealed. It costs less than a full coating system, it keeps the character of the concrete, and on a stamped patio or an older shop floor it is very often the better-looking answer.
